Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of Balance/Auditory/Vision eXercises, of varied complexity, all of which are deeply rooted in rhythm.

Exercises are done with sand-filled bags and racquetballs, sometimes while standing on a balance board.

In distilled essence, Bal-A-Vis-X enables the whole mind-body system to experience the natural symmetrical flow of a pendulum.

Bal-A-Vis-X requires focused attention, demands cooperation, promotes self-challenge, and fosters peer teaching. It is school friendly and just plain fun.

To understand BAVX intellectually, read Resonance. To experience Bal-A-Vis-X, and thereby to “get it,” take our Bal-A-Vis-X training at least once.

Bal-A-Vis-X was developed by me, Bill Hubert, after years of working as a first grade teacher, middle school teacher, and martial arts instructor. Bal-A-Vis-X wasn't born in a eureka moment. It evolved--a long process of connecting dots.

Dot One: Each year many of my grade one students didn't function well.
Dot Two: My martial arts experience enabled me to watch these 6-7 year-olds through the twin lenses of balance and rhythm.
Dot Three: I felt it important that all these students have fundamental balance and rhythm capabilities so I taught them such basic physical skills as throwing, catching, walking balance beams, skipping, and so on.
Dot Four: Slowly I became aware that, of all my students, the ones most deficient in these basic physical skills often were the same ones who struggled most academically.
Dot Five: I noticed, as we all worked on balance and rhythm, that now and then when a struggling student's balance and rhythm improved, his/her academic performance also improved.

Connecting these dots, then, posed this question: might fine tuning a child's balance and rhythm simultaneously address his/her academic difficulties? What followed were more than 20 years of trial and error to find out. The result, as of 1999, was the still-evolving program now known as Bal-A-Vis-X.

My personal Assistant Instructors are students. Over the 13 years we've conducted trainings, more than 30 have traveled with me. Nearly all began travel/teaching as 8th graders. Of the Old Core Ten who have worked with me longest, some for nine years, the oldest range in age from 22 down to 17. Of this group, two are married (one now a mom) and six are in college. The youngest is now a high school senior.

Meanwhile a New Core Five has developed, taking more and more responsibility as the senior members grow up and away. Their ages are 13-18.

These Assistant Instructors are my colleagues, crucial to the success of Bal-A-Vis-X. Together we have trained more than 11,000 adults in nearly 350 training sessions. I don't go anywhere without at least one of them. An hour into your first training, you will clearly see why.
